Frequently Asked Questions

The app stays in landscape. Is that a bug?

No — the app is designed for landscape so you always have the full court in view. If you'd like portrait on the home screen, open Court Appearance from the grid menu in the top-left and turn off Lock to Landscape.

How do I sync my plays across my iPads?

Make sure each iPad is signed in to the same Apple ID and that iCloud is enabled. The app uses Apple CloudKit to sync automatically — no account setup is required inside the app. The cloud icon in the top-right toolbar shows the current sync status.

I lost my plays after reinstalling the app. Can I recover them?

If iCloud sync was enabled before you deleted the app, your plays are still in your iCloud account and will reappear after reinstalling. If iCloud was not enabled, unfortunately the data was stored only on-device and cannot be recovered.

How do I import players from a spreadsheet?

Open Organize → Teams from the grid menu, select your team, and tap Import from CSV…. Your CSV file should have columns for Name, Number, and Position. You can create a CSV in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets and save it to Files.

How do I add a drill to a practice plan?

Open a practice plan and tap Add Item. Choose Add Drill, then select any drill from your library. The drill's default duration is pre-filled, and you can adjust it and add a coaching note.

Can I draw on a half court?

Yes. Open any play, tap the ⋯ menu in the top-right, and choose Half Court. The view switches to a single-end half court. Switch back to Full Court at any time — your content is preserved.

How do I animate a play?

Draw movement arrows on the court using the Move tool (dashed green arrows). Then tap the ▶ Play button in the top toolbar to run continuous animation. For step-by-step animation, use the step controls in the bottom bar.

How do I export a play as an image or PDF?

Open a play, tap the Share icon (↑) in the top toolbar, and choose Share as Image or Share as PDF. You can AirDrop, email, or save to Files.

What does the Quick Whiteboard do?

The Quick Whiteboard gives you a blank full-court canvas to draw on without creating a saved play. It's perfect for drawing up a quick set during a timeout. Access it by tapping the ✏️ icon in the main toolbar.

The system drills didn't appear — how do I get them?

System drills are seeded on first launch. If they didn't appear, try force-quitting the app and relaunching. If the issue persists, please contact support.

I found a bug — how do I report it?

Please email hello@rattlerplay.com with a description of the issue, what you were doing when it occurred, and your device model and iOS version. Screenshots or screen recordings are very helpful.

Getting Started

Creating your first play

Tap the + button to start a new play, or tap the book icon to browse 21 ready-made templates — tap any template to create a play with players and routes already in place. Rename your play by tapping ⋯ → Rename.

Drawing on the court

Select a tool from the bottom toolbar: the O Pen draws blue offense paths, the X Pen draws red defense paths, and the Move tool draws dashed green movement arrows with arrowheads. Tap Select to tap-delete individual strokes.

Adding players to the court

Tap Add O or Add X in the bottom bar to place offense and defense tokens. Drag tokens anywhere on the court. Tap a token to assign a player from your roster.

Building a practice plan

Open Practice Plans from the grid menu in the top-left and tap +. Inside the plan, tap Add Item to add plays and drills in order. Set a duration for each block. When you're ready to run practice, tap Start Session to open the live timer.
